memory process

MEMORY ZINE + OTHER PROJECTS

The past couple of months have been insane. I definitely haven't been updating this website enough, but a lot of new things are being worked on/figured out.

MEMORY ZINE

Memory zine is definitely proving to be the project that requires a lot of work. Scanning photographs, illustrating and putting it all together in inDesign along with text is taking way longer than expected. Nonetheless, a beautiful emotional process so crying breaks definitely exist.

OTHER PROJECTS/EXPERIMENTS

JAFFAT EL AQLAM STORE

Definitely happening so damn soon. A little details we have to figure out but it's basically ready and the packages are ready too!

TODAY - FONT: SARAH AHMED

I surprised myself with this handwriting, when I journaled about me being a horrible plant mother. I decided this was the font I wanted in my memory zine, so I used this website that creates an actual font of your handwriting. I remember using it a long time ago, but it looked like an absolute mess with my normal handwriting. I like this a lot more.

TODAY

I've had this idea for quite sometime now and is partially the reason the new themed issue is 'Memory'. This could possibly be the biggest project I work on and it will definitely be the most personal one. I can't decided if I want them to be lil zines in one package or one bigger zine (almost a book?). Collecting content is important, so I'll start doing that first.

Made this lil book filled with newsprint for quick drafts and because this could be my go-to drafts notebook, I didn't bind it with staples or stitches and used an elastic ribbon instead.

The project is basically going to be about people who were part of my very early life and little memories I have about them. I think it's the perfect way to use up all the skills I learned in the past 2 years to create the most nostalgic piece of work. Here are some of the people I'm going to illustrate and write about, with a list of keywords to focus on.

This is the most excited I've been in months!
