A DAY WITH SARA

Spent a day with Sara, who showed me her favorite falafel spot, and we talked about the future our projects.

DO MOUNTAINS CRY WHEN THEY EXPERIENCE THE SUNRISE TOO?

Al Ain, UAE - Jebel Hafeet - 2016

For 10 days, I conducted workshops in Al Ain. Although considered part of Abu Dhabi, it had completely different streets' logic, vibes and even phone code. I don't get it, but I'm glad it exists.

We woke up around 4 am to get ready, went to the gas station to get some snacks and the clerk asked us if we were going to Oman. 'I WISH', I blurted. Watching the sunset itself is a magical experience, but there's something soul crushing and healing at the same time when you get to watch it from a mountain. Seeing people in the very tiny cars, as tiny as a sesame seed going to work or school.

We drove back to the hotel, with leftover snacks and the sniffles to nap before working again.

BLACK & WHITE PANORAMAS

I loved how everything looked in my last cam date with Panorama, and decided to give it a go with a black and white film, IL FORD XP 2 SUPER 400. It uses a C41 process (to develop), and that just happens to be easier to find in this city. The rest of the photos were terribly underexposed, because they were taken indoors or when the sun was down.

NEW CAM DATE - PANORAMA

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 2016

I still haven't found a proper way to document the films I'm using, and I'm so angry I don't know what film roll this is. I bought this camera online ages ago, and completely forgot about it. I only received it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was best to take it out on a date.

I was expecting something completely different, but I like how these turned out.

BON GA RESTAURANT

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 2016

When my sister found out that I was going to Musaffah, she asked me to pass by the Korean supermarket to get her some ingredients to make BBQ beef. Since she was awake, she said she'd join in, and we can check out a Korean restaurant right next to the supermarket. I've been to 4 different -exclusively- Korean restaurants, and this is by far the best one I've been to. It's very cozy, and everything taste divine. The owner/manager was very nice, and the staff were sweet. They also sold their Kimchi and other appetizers. We bought these dried anchovies (something we never thought we'd like) that were mixed with some sort of sweetish sauce, and they're just incredible.

BAHIYA'S ROUNDABOUT LIL MOSQUES

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 2016

Bahiya is the area I live in and there's a lil mosque next to every roundabouts. All of these were taken in the car, to test out the zooming in a new point & shoot (but also because it's too hot to get out of the car)

PHOTO DUMP - PICTURES TAKEN THE PAST 2 YEARS IN/BEFORE/AFTER UNI (ongoing)

The past 5 years have been insane, here are some photographs that were taken during university. Books I'v read, stuff I ate, floors I sat on, skies I flailed over, my room changing etc. I'll just keep adding to this, as I find photographs (hence, photo dump).

I absolutely love how I can notice me changing through these photographs. My angles & editing preference change too. Time is beautifully un(real).

DIANA MINI - FIRST ROLL

I recently bought a Diana mini on impulse, and I was very hesitant to use it because manual cameras were never a good experience.

I'm very happy with how these turned out. I might have half-assed it because I didn't want to feel sad about good pictures not turning out well. It also gave me a chance to go crazy with the options and note how they effect the photographs. What I mostly love about the Diana is it's low-fi-dreamy square photos. They have a nice journaling feel to them.
